The Sacré-Coeur church is Castellane’s parish church. Located on the main square, it was built in the late 19th century. A weather vane can be seen at the top of the bell tower.
In 1865, a subscription campaign was launched for the construction of a new parish church. On March 26, 1867, the Castellane town council unanimously adopted plans and specifications dated March 18, 1867. Saint-Victor’s church was considered too damp, unhealthy, in very poor condition and insufficient for the needs of the population.
On September 21, 1868, a new project was proposed by architect Guillaume-Joseph Pougnet, also known as Abbé Pougnet.
The church was built between 1870 and 1874. By December 31, 1872, most of the work had been completed, and by March 22, 1873, all that remained was to build the bell tower spire, and lay the paving, stoops and doors.
An extension to the church was planned as early as 1893, and on June 3, 1894, the municipal council agreed to increase the subsidy by one thousand francs to cover the cost of the extension, on condition that the fabrique would pay for the running of the clock decorating the façade.
The extension involves the construction of two side aisles. What was once a two-bay transept became a side aisle. On April 25, 1896, architect Bongarçon from Digne presented a project with estimates and specifications. The work involved demolishing the church’s aisle walls and rebuilding them behind, in line with the east and west walls of the transept, connecting with the east wall of the bell tower and the west wall of the chapel.
On May 31, 1896, the work was awarded to Joseph Edouard Gallo, a Sisteron contractor, for the sum of 8,822 francs. On December 27, 1897, architect Bongarçon drew up a report on the final acceptance of the work by contractor Joseph Gallo.
Construction of the Sacré-Coeur church was thus completed by the end of 1897.

Various maintenance works were carried out during the 20th century.
In 2017, underfloor heating was installed, financed by the Mairie with the help of the French government.
