2h15 circuit – 104 km. A circuit of winding roads, from clues to hilltop villages, playing leapfrog. Ideal for bikers, this tour offers breathtaking scenery of greenery and rocky outcrops.
This circuit of winding roads will take you through typical villages with astonishing heritage.
From Saint Julien du Verdon, follow the main road over the Col de Toutes Aures, cross the Rouaine clues and follow the signs for Ubraye. This small village is still in its medieval location, dominated by the hill “du château”, where the remains of a military construction are still visible. Continue through the Val de Chalvagne valley, passing through a number of small hamlets, each more typical than the last.
Take the time to stop at Castellet-Saint-Cassien to discover the château built in the first half of the 17th century, a medieval castle belonging at the time to the Seigneur de Glandéves. The route continues to La Rochette, a village clinging to a steep mountainside. Pass through the rock-cut porch to discover beautiful panoramic views of the Alpes-Maritimes. Continue the loop to Saint Pierre, where you can see the 19th-century church of Saint Etienne. The circuit makes a short detour into the Alpes Maritimes, heading for Sallagriffon then Saint Auban and its picturesque clues overlooking the Estéron river.
A little stop to stretch your legs?
Soleilhas is a medieval village of around a hundred souls, which keeps time with its characteristic Romanesque-Provençal bell tower.
Demandolx overlooks the lakes of Chaudanne and Castillon, offering a magnificent panorama reminiscent of the Norwegian fjords, where the deep blue of the lakes shimmers against a green backdrop of mountains.
On your return to Saint Julien du Verdon, enjoy a relaxing break on the shores of Lac de Castillon – you’ve earned it!
