The seven hamlets that make up the commune of Tartonne occupy the bottom of the Haute Vallée de l’Asse. A starting point for many hiking and mountain biking trails, Tartonne is also home to many geological curiosities (Faille du Défens, fossils…).
Nestling at the bottom of the valley at the source of one of the Asses, in the Geological Nature Reserve of Haute Provence, the village boasts a listed religious heritage: the 12th-century church of Notre Dame d’Entraigues and the Chapelle Saint Jean Baptiste. The village also boasts natural curiosities such as the salt well, as well as artistic and contemporary works such as “La Sentinelle”, by Andy Goldsworthy.
Tartonne is also an ideal stopover for hikers on the Grande Traversée des Préalpes, and mountain bikers on the Chemins du Soleil (Sisteron-Nice).
